![]() ![]() Michele Gallo Cook.FROM THE EDITOR/DESIGNER, MARINO AMORUSO.In a family full of great Italian cooks, Aunt Phil Gallo was by far the best. ![]() I am convinced that some of my mother's recipes can never be duplicated, whether it was the pan she used or a trick of my memory, some things just never come out the same. ![]() I still have that first beat up cookbook with the recipes. About a week before my wedding, I asked my mother to make my favorite foods, and then I followed her around the kitchen, badgering her about what went into what dish, how much and how long it was cooked, etc. This made for great dinners but hard-to-follow recipes! My mother rarely wrote anything down, and for the most part, it wasn't until I got married that any of these recipes were written down. She could, with amazing talent, open the refrigerator and create a memorable meal out of almost nothing. Anyone who came to dinner at our house, and there were quite a few, shared that opinion. First, my mother was a terrific cook, and I'm not saying that just because she was my mother. There are a few things you have to understand about this cookbook before you try any of the recipes. ![]() FROM THE INTRODUCTION BY MICHELE GALLO COOK. ![]()

(There are a few scenes of teenage drinking and sex, but the overwhelming message of this book is so strong that even this conservative mother is willing to overlook it.) Parents should read it with their teens and discuss it with them. This book is aimed at teens, but every American adult should read it too. Terrorists blow up San Francisco's Bay Bridge and everyone's constitutional rights get trampled in the aftermath. I don't recall that the book ever states what the year is. ![]() "Little Brother" is "1984" for the 21st century, but with more impact. Now, in 2008, a new book of power has emerged. "Uncle Tom's Cabin" and Frederick Douglass' autobiography opened people's eyes to the evils of slavery Anne Frank's Diary taught us that genocide kills innocent young girls "To Kill a Mockingbird" showed us that justice isn't always just and that people should be judged by their character rather than the color of their skin "The Grapes of Wrath" opened our eyes to the plight of migrant farm workers "1984" warned us about the perils of a nanny state. The reason is that books can change the world. There is a reason why totalitarian governments ban books. ![]() ![]() ![]() However, repression of the female element within males often results in a negative Anima that emerges as personality traits such as “ vanity, moodiness, bitchiness, and sensitivity to hurt feelings.” The key realization here is that he must find this force within himself, rather than disown it onto another.Īs described by Jungian Psychologist Dan Johnston, the man who has connected with his feminine Anima displays “ tenderness, patience, consideration and compassion.” But he can never embody the Anima through another person – only through his own concerted efforts. Often, this quest results in some sort of projection, that is, trying to find the ideal lover or soulmate in the form of another idealized person. In other words, he must unite with the other half of his Soul. ![]() However, in the perspective of psychology, in order to fully step into a mature masculine role, a man must go on a quest to explore this inner Divine Feminine energy. ![]() ![]() ![]() And if there is some eternal world after this one, what fate awaits a taker of lives? I understand why there are scythes, and how important and how necessary the work is… but I often wonder why I had to be chosen. The ending of human life used to be in the hands of nature. ![]() We have one very limited world, and although death has been defeated as completely as polio, people still must die. It’s not as if we can go somewhere else the disasters on the moon and Mars colonies proved that. All of that is behind us now, and yet a simple truth remains: People have to die. It’s hard for most of us to imagine a world so unsafe, with dangers lurking in every unseen, unplanned corner. Aging couldn’t be reversed, and there were accidents from which there was no return. There were invisible killers called “diseases” that broke the body down. Old age used to be a terminal affliction, not a temporary state. And knowing that it is for the greater good doesn’t make it any easier. ![]() It is the most difficult thing a person can be asked to do. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() For if Jesus truly rose from the dead, Christianity is true. But few are as important as the resurrection of Jesus. There are many items about Jesus and the Bible that are debated. In that case, Christians should party hard now, because this life is all that there is (1 Corinthians 15:12-19, 30-32). The apostle Paul would later state that if Jesus did not rise from the dead, our faith is futile, God has not forgiven us, our loved ones who have died as followers of Jesus are forever gone, and those who are persecuted for their faith do so needlessly. ![]() In this response, Jesus provided a test by which others could know if he was the real deal. On one of those occasions, the Gospel of John reports that Jesus answered he would rise from the dead after they had killed him (John 2:18-20). The Gospels inform us that Jesus’s critics responded by challenging him to give proof to support his claims. Among other things, they also agree that Jesus challenged the Jewish leadership and accused them of various misdeeds. Jesus’s resurrection is the ultimate test pertaining to whether Christianity is true.Īlmost all historians of Jesus agree that, at the very minimum, Jesus claimed that he had a special relationship with God who had chosen him to usher in his kingdom.
